Data Scientist / Business Analytics | Innovative Data Projects

Our client is a software development group who create world class tools to denoise, smooth,and otherwise process messy data for further analysis.  We are looking for a data scientist to help us develop tools which help customers tidy their data.

We are looking for someone with intellectual curiosity, and the ability to mine hidden gems located within large sets of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data and the ability to leverage a heavy dose of mathematics and applied statistics with visualisation and a healthy sense of exploration.

Strategic Thinking: Able to influence the strategic direction of the company by identifying opportunities in large, rich data sets and creating and implementing data driven strategies that fuel growth including cost savings, revenue and profits.

Modeling: Experience with creating ETL processes to source and link data, feature design and selection design and implement statistical / predictive models using edge algorithms on diverse sources of data and testing and validation of models.

Analytics: Utilise analytical applications like R to identify trends and relationships between different pieces of data, draw appropriate conclusions and translate analytical findings into business strategies.

Visualisation: Create visualisations to connect disparate data, find patterns and tell engaging stories. This includes both scientific visualisation as well as geographic.

Communications and Project Management: Capable of turning dry analysis into an exciting story that influences the direction of the business and communicating with diverse teams to take a project from start to finish. Collaborate with product teams to develop and support our internal data platform and to support ongoing analyses.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Design & architect new algorithms together with adv statistical, pattern recognition & optimisation routines incl propensity models, collaborative filtering & other predictive or clustering models; Analyse marketing data utilising these new algorithms;
  • Dev scalable impl of statistical tests & models; Coordinate the dev of Big Data proc framework using R, Matlab, Microsoft SQL, Java, Hadoop & Cascading technologies.
  • Experience in operations research analysis in supporting the development of effective analytical models for better marketing strategies in a cloud-based environment.

 Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Degree in science-based program with an emphasis on data analysis (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc.)
  • Big Data experience with the following tools: Hadoop,  MapReduce, PIG, HIVE,
  • Machine Learning experience with the following tools:  R, Weka, Mahout, scikit-learn
  • Visualisation experience with the following tools:  Tableau, Spotfire, ARC Gis
  • Supervisory experience – at least 5 years’ experience with data analytics and prior supervisory experience desirable.
